The city is noted for its main feature, Ripon Cathedral which is architecturally significant, as well as the Ripon Racecourse and other features such as its market. Ripon is also close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site which consists of the Studley Royal Park and Fountains Abbey.

Ripon Cathedral

Ripon Cathedral is a beautiful, ancient church with a history reaching back to the 7th Century. Today's church is the fourth to have stood on this site.

The minster finally became a cathedral (the church where the Bishop has his cathedra or throne) in 1836
The cathedral has a fine organ by Harrison and Harrison dating from 1926.

Workhouse Museum

Workhouse Museum A Workhouse has stood on this site since 1776. The museum is housed in the former male vagrants section where there are 14 cells where the unfortunates were locked in for the night. A Commission of Enquiry was appointed in 1832 and Ripon was found to have 33 inmates. 11 men, 11 boys, 9 women and 2 girls. Anyone that was "able bodied" spent 8 hours a day breaking stones to mend roads. The youngest inmate, Matthew Colby, was only 2 weeks old.

Ripon Canal

Ripon Canal.  A walk along the towpath takes you past moored narrowboats and locks, along a green corridor through the city and out into the countryside. t is a scenic route, alive with wild flowers and grasses, and a wetland bird sanctuary runs alongside it on the section by Ripon Racecourse.
The canal was abandoned in 1956, but restored thanks to the efforts of local volunteers.

Spa Gardens

Spa Gardens is a beautiful park right in the heart of Ripon with something for everyone. It has been recognised for its high quality maintenance and facilities.In the centre of the park is a splendid Victorian bandstand where band concerts take place on Sunday afternoons throughout the summer. For birdwatchers, carefully sited nesting boxes have encouraged many varieties to make a home in the gardens. There is also a cafe serving home cooked food and cakes, from where you can take part in crazy golf or even try playing bowls.
